This invaluable book studies synchronization of coupled chaotic circuits and systems, as well as its applications. It shows how one can use stability results in nonlinear control to derive synchronization criteria for coupled chaotic circuits and

systems. It also discusses the use of Lyapunov exponents in deriving synchronization criteria. Both the case of two coupled systems and the case of arbitrarily coupled arrays of systems are considered. The book examines how synchronization propertiesin arrays of coupled systems are dependent on graph-theoretical properties of the underlying coupling topology. Finally, it studies some applications of synchronized chaotic circuits and systems, including spread spectrum and secure communications, coupled map lattices and graph coloring.

Capitalism

Capitalism

Capitalism free ebook download.

This book provides a basic introduction to the 'nuts and bolts' of capitalism for the beginner. It starts by examining the classic accounts of capitalism found in the works of Adam Smith, Karl Marx, Max Weber, Joseph Schumpeter and John Maynard

Keynes. Each placed emphasis on different institutional elements of capitalism - Smith on the market's 'invisible hand'; Marx on capital's exploitation of labour; Weber on the foundations of economic rationality; and Schumpeter and Keynes on theinstability that results from capitalism's essentially monetary and financial character. Drawing on these classic accounts, Ingham then offers a succinct analysis of capitalism's basic institutions and their interconnections. Marketexchange, the monetary system, the enterprise, capital and financial markets, and the role of the state are dealt with in separate chapters which make use of contemporary material on the recent history of the capitalist system - including the greatinflation of the 1970s and the neo-liberal backlash; the 'dot.com' bubble of the late 1990s; the collapse of Enron and other US corporations; and the rise of 'private equity' finance. Attention is given to the connection between the current keyissues of economic globalization, inequality, and monetary and financial fragility. The result is a concise, masterly and up-to-date account of the world's most powerful economic system, which is accessible to students and general readers.

`This is the first book I've read in a long time that, once started, I couldn't put down until it was finished. It is an exceptionally good read. The 77 pages are written succinctly with no waffle - just straight to the point. I will

definitely buy a copy of this book for the whole family to use! I will use it to guide Joe (my 17 year old Asperger son) when he's ready for it. It's not a book he would read himself; in fact I read the section "the merits of single life" out loud tohim a bit like a bed time story' - Action for ASD 'There is a great need for more awareness of Asperger syndrome and how it affects personal relationships. The National Autistic Society find this a helpful guide' - Cathy Mercer, NAS 'This book sets out some helpful facts about relationships in a neat, simple form' - Asperger United Material based on the experiences of the people on the AutisticSpectrum is usually written by neurotypical writers. Here, Genevieve and Dean, both adults with Asperger's Syndrome, share their advice and tips for romantic success. The chapters cover: o building self-esteem; othe best places to meet potential partners; o dating; o maintaining relationships. Both authors work with the Asperger community, either providing support or training, so their insight is based upon other people's experiencesas well as their own. This is shown in a number of case studies that support the elements described in each chapter. They write in a clear, accessible and non-patronizing way which will suit their audience. This will prove to be aninvaluable book to those with Asperger's or those that support Asperger people. Dean Worton is a 31 year-old high functioning individual with a very positive expression of Asperger Syndrome. He runs a successful UK-based websitefor adults with Asperger Syndrome and hosts real-life meet-ups around the UK for its members. His key interest is in encouraging adults with AS to live positively and successfully with the gifts that Asperger Syndrome provides. He also works inadminstration and resides in North-West England. Genevieve Edmonds is a 23 year old with 'residual' Asperger Syndrome, which she views as a significant gift. She works as an associate of the Missing Link Support Service in Lancashiresupporting those 'disabled by society' including individuals with ASD. She speaks and writes frequently in the field of Autism, along with giving training, workshops and soon counselling. She aims to empower those with ASD, carers and professionalsin the understanding of Asperger Syndrome as a difference rather than an impairment. She lives and works in a solution-focused way and is based in North-West England

Art and the End of Apartheid

Art and the End of Apartheid free ebook download.

Black South African artists have typically had their work labeled “African art” or “township art,” qualifiers that, when contrasted with simply “modernist art,” have been used to marginalize their work both in South Africa and

internationally. In Art and the End of Apartheid, John Peffer considers in-depth the work of black South African artists in the decades leading up to the end of apartheid in 1994. Peffer examines painting and graphic art, photography, avant-garde and performance art, and popular and protest art through artist collectives, such as the Thupelo Art Project and the Medu Art Ensemble, and individuals such as Durant Sihlali and Santu Mofokeng. He shows how South Africanartists imagined what “postapartheid” could mean during the time of apartheid, even as they struggled with immediate issues of censorship, militancy, street violence and torture, and, more broadly, the problem of self-representation and thesocial role of art. In defiance of the racial polarization that surrounded them, Peffer describes how South African artists created “grey areas,” nonracialized spaces and hybrid art forms in which both black and white South Africanscollaborated. Beyond the boundaries of apartheid, these artists forged connections at home and abroad that modeled a future, more democratic society.

Hyperbolic Geometry from a Local Viewpoint (London Mathematical Society Student Texts) free ebook download.

Written for graduate students, this book presents topics in 2-dimensional hyperbolic geometry. The authors begin with rigid motions in the plane which are used as motivation for a full development of hyperbolic geometry in the unit disk. The approach

is to define metrics from an infinitesimal point of view; first the density is defined and then the metric via integration. The study of hyperbolic geometry in arbitrary domains requires the concepts of surfaces and covering spaces as well asuniformization and Fuchsian groups. These ideas are developed in the context of what is used later. The authors then provide a detailed discussion of hyperbolic geometry for arbitrary plane domains. New material on hyperbolic and hyperbolic-likemetrics is presented. These are generalizations of the Kobayashi and Caratheodory metrics for plane domains. The book concludes with applications to holomorphic dynamics including new results and accessible open problems.

Introduction to Webometrics: Quantitative Web Research for the Social Sciences (Synthesis Lectures on Information Concepts, Retrieval, and Services) free ebook download.

Webometrics is concerned with measuring aspects of the web: web sites, web pages, parts of web pages, words in web pages, hyperlinks, web search engine results. The importance of the web itself as a communication medium and for hosting an

increasingly wide array of documents, from journal articles to holiday brochures, needs no introduction. Given this huge and easily accessible source of information, there are limitless possibilities for measuring or counting on a huge scale (e.g.,the number of web sites, the number of web pages, the number of blogs) or on a smaller scale (e.g., the number of web sites in Ireland, the number of web pages in the CNN web site, the number of blogs mentioning Barack Obama before the 2008presidential campaign). This book argues that it can be useful for social scientists to measure aspects of the web and explains how this can be achieved on both a small and large scale. The book is intended for social scientists with research topicsthat are wholly or partly online (e.g., social networks, news, political communication) and social scientists with offline research topics with an online reflection, even if this is not a core component (e.g., diaspora communities, consumer culture, linguistic change). The book is also intended for library and information science students in the belief that the knowledge and techniques described will be useful for them to guide and aid other social scientists in their research. In addition, thetechniques and issues are all directly relevant to library and information science research problems. The Enterprise Architecture IT Project

The Enterprise Architecture IT Project free ebook download.

The basis for an Enterprise Architecture IT project comes from the identification of the changes necessary to implement the enterprise or organisation's strategy, and the growing information needs arising from this, which increases the demand for the

development of the IT system. The development of an IT system can be carried out using an urbanisation approach i.e. building an IT system using the metaphor of a city. This concept is based on the fact that in constructing or reorganisinginformation systems, the reconstruction and modernisation involves permanent elements, as are found in a city. Although relatively new, this approach has been successfully employed in a number of projects over the past few years. The practicalapproach given in this book allows enterprises or organisations trying to safeguard the efficiency of their IT system, while minimising costs and risk, to implement the theory and put it into practice.

The revised and updated second edition of Religious Holidays and Calendars: An Encyclopedic Handbook has been reorganized for ease of use and expanded to cover more than 450 religious holidays. The holidays covered in this encyclopedic reference

are those with a sacred component that celebrates, commemorates, or honors people, places, events, and concepts important to a specific religious community. Entries for more than 450 religious holidays are organized in the new edition byreligion, according to the most appropriate calendar, rather than alphabetically by holiday name. Each religion chapter begins with an introductory essay that provides the reader with background information, followed by an essay covering specificissues related to the religion and its sacred calendar. The religion chapters begin in the Middle East, the birthplace of many religions. These are listed in order of the historical appearance of their founders: Abraham (Judaism), Zoroaster(Zoroastrianism), Jesus (Christianity), Muhammad (Islam), and Baha'u'llah (Baha'i). Several post-Christian movements of the last few centuries have been included in the Christian chapter. Moving eastward, the next group of religions are thosewith origins in the Indian subcontinent: Hinduism, Jainism, Sikhism, and Buddhism. Buddhism serves as a bridge to the religions of the Far East: Confucianism, Taoism, Chinese folk religions, and Shinto. These are folowed by religions for the Oldand New Worlds: Native American and tribal religions, Paganism (including Wicca, Druidry, Asatru, and Goddess Cults), and Western African Religions and their New World expressions (including Yoruba religious traditions, Vodoo, Santeria, andCandomblé). Preceding the main section on religious holidays are four chapters on the historical development of lunar, lunisolar, and solar calendars, their sacred and secular uses, and calendar reform movements. Completing the work are anappendix listing Internet resources, a topically arranged bibliography, and four indexes: Alphabetic List of Holidays, Chronological List of Holidays, Calendar Index, and Master Index.
